ABOUT SYDNE HORTON
Originally from the Midwest, Sydne is a queer filmmaker based in both Los Angeles and New York. Raised as an adopted child, her exploration of identity, belonging, and self-discovery is central to her work. This deeply personal lens allows her to craft stories that explore the complexities of human connection, often blending genres like horror, drama, and comedy in unexpected ways.
Sydne's work has earned widespread acclaim, screening at prestigious festivals such as Palm Springs ShortFest, NewFest, Aesthetica Short Film, Outfest LA, and more. Her horror short META was also featured in I Spit on Your Celluloid: The History of Women Directing Horror Films—highlighting her distinct contributions to the genre. In addition, her film was part of a 3-month exhibit at Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture, further cementing her voice in contemporary cinematic culture.
Most recently, her coming-of-age comedy SATURDAY RITUAL competed for the Best LGBT+ Jury Award at Palm Springs ShortFest and it won the Best Teen Film Audience Award at NewFest LGBTQ+. Sydne is now expanding the film into a feature, continuing her signature blend of humor and heartfelt exploration of identity.
She is also an alum of the Women in Film Directing Mentorship and the Emmys Television Academy Internship.
